DIGIFEST ID SYSTEM

University of Houston’s DigiFest is an annual senior portfolio showcase. This important event provides opportunities to seniors through the presentation of their projects and other work they have completed throughout the course of their undergraduate career.

Before beginning this project, I conducted research to discover more about parallel structures and how designers apply those structures on multiple items to produce a unified brand system. I began discovering interesting posters with image treatment and other elements that I used as inspiration. Most of the posters had graphical elements that demonstrated movement, color, and typographical design. After collecting posters and other aspects of design, I began to conceptualize my identity system.
The brand system and overall design of my project is centered around my written concept that Digital Media inspires individuals to create a synthesis between technology, science, and art. With this unique blend, students are able to learn and challenge their creativity to produce unique works.

Through my concept and poster examples, I began to experiment with certain elements of design and imagery to compose several versions. Based on my concept, I created a three-dimensional rectangle and inserted imagery into two triangles inside the rectangle. Afterward, I began to modify it and then included different images to represent the Digital Media program, which integrates technology, science, math, art, and business. The imagery I chose was based on those areas and subjects and then I applied the unified system to the materials. After simplifying the design once more, the final version effectively integrates the UH brand system along with the Digital Media program to create a concise materials system.
